In Riverbank, Calif., pet owners should watch where they walk. Code enforcement is going to start handing out heavy fines to those who don’t pick up what their dogs leave behind. A new ordinance was passed after residents complained and goes into effect next month. If a warning doesn’t persuade the pet owners to comply, a $50 fine will come next, and repeat offenders could face penalties of up to $200. The city council will give a final approval to the new ordinance on August 9, and pet owners can expect to be cited after that date. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=289&ncid=289&e=3&u=/ibsys/20040729/lo_kcra/230792
