Paramount, Calif., recently celebrated the re-opening of Dills Park, originally known as “Banana” Park because of its long, curved and narrow shape. The park, which runs along the Los Angeles River, has been refurbished and expanded, with drought-resistant landscaping, playgrounds, additional lighting, physical fitness facilities, newly constructed restrooms and exhibits about the area’s history. The $9 million renovation project was managed by the city’s recreation and public works departments and paid for primarily with grant money from various sources.
