A new take on public housing
The Housing Authority of Newport, Ky., celebrated the opening of the Saratoga Street homes in late October. The properties, which were once occupied by empty lots and dilapidated buildings, are now the site of eight new homes built with funding from a Hope VI grant. Newport is the smallest city in the country to receive a Hope VI grant. The eight Saratoga properties were acquired for $199,430, and now are worth $1,024,000.
