A stream restored

Pasadena, Calif., the Arroyo Seco Foundation and Cambridge, Mass.-based CDM completed a $2.5 million Central Arroyo Seco Stream Restoration Program in August. The project included improvements to the area’s aquatic habitat and vegetation that have allowed the reintroduction of the Arroyo Chub, a fish species that once thrived in the stream. To keep the stream clean, a number of stormwater management devices and techniques have been introduced in the surrounding area, including permeable pavement and plant islands in parking lots, and full-capture trash inserts in storm drains. The project also leveled and stabilized nearby trails and created stream crossings for pedestrians and equestrians. Photo copyright Terry Miller.
