A new report from the Alexandria, Va.-based Water Environment Federation (WEF) and other water and public works organizations outlines the legal and policy framework for security at the nation's drinking water and wastewater facilities. “Protecting the Water Sector from Security Threats” updates legal and policy changes made since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, including the duty to prepare for and respond to terrorist and man-made disasters, conduct employee background checks, and balance the public's right to know with the need to keep some information confidential. “The legal aspects of water security are constantly evolving, and WEF and our partner organizations hope water and wastewater utility executives, managers and operators will find this publication helpful,” said WEF Executive Director Bill Bertera. The report is available at www.wef.org.
