Urban play summit coming to Chicago Oct. 23-24

October 23rd - 24th, 2014 • Chicago, IL

Past Event:

The 2014 Playful City USA Leaders Summit will allow municipal leaders to share ideas on how to make their cities more friendly to families and urban play.

The event will take place Oct. 23-24 at the Blue 1647 entrepreneurship and technology center near West 18th Street. Experts from fields like science, medicine and urban planning as well as officials from cities like Chicago, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. will discuss why outdoor play is disappearing from the lives of children and examine ways cities are trying to become friendlier places for families.

The conference will feature new research from the non-profit park-building foundation KaBOOM! and the behavioral economics firm ideas42. Chicago was chosen to host the event due to Mayor Rahm Emanuel's initiatives to put parks within a seven-mile radius of residents and bring recess back to schools.
