California community adopts financial and personnel software tool
Some of the areas where the city will employ EDEN include general ledger, accounts payable, purchasing, inventory, fixed assets and accounts receivable.
The city also will employ EDEN modules for applicant tracking, employee training, human resources and payroll; all of these modules are designed to improve the management of the city’s human resource data. In addition, the city will use EDEN GASB Reporter and Crystal Reports to enhance its reporting capabilities.
In addition to the software, the city will receive related professional services and ongoing maintenance and support from Tyler.
“We were not only impressed with the number of clients using Tyler’s EDEN solution in our area, but also with the fact that they have been using the software for years,” Alhambra Information Services Manager Glenn Paik said. “EDEN screens are clearly laid out and the system features workflows that parallel our current processing procedures. The flexibility and options available in the budgeting module also contributed to our decision to choose Tyler’s EDEN software.”
Jeff Green, president of Tyler’s EDEN Financial Management Solutions, views the contract as a reflection of the EDEN product’s strong presence in the Golden State.
“Tyler’s EDEN system, which has a broad client base in California, has earned a reputation for being a feature-rich ERP solution,” Green said. “The city of Alhambra will benefit from the automation of processes and reporting capabilities in our public sector-specific product.” Tyler’s client base includes more than 6,000 local government offices in the United States.
Alhambra, with a population of 87,506, is located in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles County, five miles from downtown Los Angeles. The city is recognized as a leading retail center in the Western states.
Useful resource for governments planning IT upgrades
The Center for Technology in Government (CTG) works with governments worldwide to develop information strategies that foster innovation and enhance the quality and coordination of public services.
“Our ‘Making Smart IT Choices’ publication helps government managers go through a process of all the things that they should do before making a technology decision,” CTG Communications Manager Alison Heaphy told GovPro.com. “The CTG is about the human side of technology, and how government administrators go about making thoughtful decisions concerning the kinds of technology their agencies and departments might need.”
One of the CTG’s newest publications, “Exploring Regional Telecommunications Incident Response Coordination,” has information about the coordination necessary to ensure effective functioning of critical infrastructure, especially during emergencies.
