The Greenville County, S.C., Tax Assessor has purchased QAS Pro address verification software from Boston-based Experian QAS. The software will validate information as it is entered from deed transfers to improve staff efficiency, reduce returned mail and ensure that tax bills reach constituents. The tax assessor's office processes 300 to 400 deeds a week. (9/17/2012)
Santa Clara County, Calif., has signed a countywide Enterprise Software License Agreement with Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft for its Office 365 software. (9/4/2012)
Fayette County, Pa., has contracted with Troy, Mich.-based New World Systems to provide its Logos.NET Financial Management and Payroll and Human Resources software to replace the county's financial system. (8/6/2012)
Charlotte, N.C., has contracted with Dallas-based Tyler Technologies to provide its Munis enterprise resource planning system to replace its 30-year-old financial systems. The $8 million contract includes software licensing fees, professional services and implementation for multiple applications, software and services from third-party software providers for airport management, and compliance management add-on applications. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has contracted with Norcross, Ga.-based Leica Geosystems to provide several products in its High-Definition Survey line, including the Leica Geosystems ScanStation C10 and the Leica HDS7000 3D laser scanner. The equipment will be used to document and map evidence at accident scenes so the incidents can be modeled and reconstructed later in a 3D computer environment. (7/9/2012)
The Philadelphia Parking Authority has signed a seven-year $75 million contract with Norwalk, Conn.-based Xerox to supply new technology, including a new website and handheld electronic ticket-writing devices. The website will allow residents to apply for parking permits, schedule hearings and submit inquiries; and the handheld devices will allow enforcement officers to take photos and record GPS coordinates of violations. Kent, Ohio, has contracted with Troy, Mich.-based New World Systems to provide its Logos.NET Public Administration suite of solutions. The software will provide workflow and electronic approvals that will help the city streamline operational processes and reduce paperwork. (6/25/2012)
The Meherrin River Regional Jail Authority has contracted with Winston-Salem, N.C.-based InterAct to provide its JailTracker application for the authority's new facility in Alberta, Va. The system will be used to manage every aspect of the correctional facility's operations, from tracking inmates, to managing communications among employees, management and the public. (8/20/2012)
The Bexar Metro 9-1-1 Network District in San Antonio, Texas, has contracted with Longmont, Colo.-based Intrado to provide its THOR Shield mobile 9-1-1 emergency communications program. The program includes a two-story, 40-ton, 80-foot-long vehicle equipped with next generation 9-1-1 technology that can be rapidly deployed in support of planned and unplanned events. (8/20/2012)
Kenton County, Ky., has contracted with Troy, Mich.-based New World Systems to provide its suite of Aegis Public Safety software. The agency will use the Aegis Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management, Mobile Computing and Field-Based Reporting software to automate and streamline emergency response for Kenton County Sheriff, and Taylor Mill, Independence, Kenton County and Covington police departments. Lancaster County, Pa., has contracted with Annapolis, Md.-based ARINC Inc. to provide a new public safety radio system that will include infrastructure to support APCO Project 25-certified radios from multiple manufacturers. (8/6/2012)
Maricopa Region 911 in Arizona has contracted with Longmont, Colo.-based Intrado to replace its analog call-handling system with IP-based systems. (7/30/2012)
Jim Wells County, Texas, has contracted with Houston-based Tait Communications to provide a P25-compliant communications solution for its public-safety agencies and emergency responders. The three-site, two-channel hybrid TaitNet QS2 Simulcast / P25 Simulcast VHF network, which is fully compliant with the 2013 FCC narrowband mandate, will replace an outdated analog network and improve coverage for first responders throughout the county. Los Angeles County has contracted with Waltham, Mass.-based Raytheon to replace legacy emergency dispatch consoles with new ones that can be expanded for Long Term Evolution, a high-speed, wireless broadband data network. Under a $12.5 million contract, the company will replace all public safety communications consoles for the sheriff and fire departments. (6/25/2012)
The Pasadena, Calif., Department of Transportation has ordered 80 additional DEGAROUTE spray applications for sharrows — symbols identifying a shared lane for motorists and bicyclists — from Germany-based Evonik. The order follows a successful application of 75 sharrows in January 2012. (9/10/2012)
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has contracted with Madison, Wis.-based Strand Associates to conduct a planning-level study of the Madison Beltline corridor. The study will analyze safety, capacity and geometric issues and recommend improvements. (8/13/2012)
The Michigan Department of Transportation has contracted with New York-based Parsons Brinckerhoff to provide on-call construction services for a high-speed rail corridor between Pontiac/Detroit and Chicago. The contract calls for the firm to assist the agency in overseeing the railroad construction upgrade program, including construction engineering, inspection, office technician work, and general project management services. Wilmington, Del., has contracted with Minneapolis-based Honeywell for a $35 million renewable energy project, including a new facility to convert biogas into power and heat for the city's wastewater treatment plant. The project is part of a citywide initiative to decrease energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions, a program that has also included Honeywell-led solar installations and energy efficient building improvements. Combined, the upgrades will help the city trim its carbon footprint by about 35 percent and meet nearly 50 percent of its electricity needs with renewable energy. Construction on the renewable energy facility is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2013, with completion in the summer of 2014. (9/17/2012)

The New York City Water Board has contracted with Voorhees, N.J.-based American Water Resources to provide its Water and Sewer Line Protection Programs to an estimated 600,000 homeowners throughout the city's five boroughs beginning this fall. (8/13/2012)
The Cocoa, Fla., Utilities Department has contracted with Atlanta-based Mueller Service Co. to provide assessment, maintenance, repair and replacement services for the city's 4,000 valves and 1,500 hydrants. (7/30/2012)
Scottsdale, Ariz., has signed a 10-year contract with Pittsburgh-based Calgon Carbon Corp. to provide reactivation services for activated carbon used to treat the city's drinking water. The value of the contract will depend upon the amount of spent activated carbon that is reactivated annually, which is expected to be approximately 6 million pounds. (7/16/2012)
Woonsocket, R.I., has contracted with Denver-based CH2M HILL to operate its regional wastewater treatment facility, design and build nearly $80 million in upgrades to the facility, and then operate it for 20 years. (7/9/2012)
Maryland Heights, Mo., has contracted with Wheaton, Ill.-based RJN Group for three stormwater projects that aim to eliminate or reduce erosion or flooding damage. (7/9/2012)
Fayetteville, Ark., has retained Wheaton, Ill.-based RJN Group to update the city's wastewater collection system master plan. The project will involve converting and updating the hydraulic model, and evaluating the system's ability to accommodate growth. (7/2/2012)
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission has contracted with Wheaton, Ill.-based RJN Group, Inc. for a two-year trunk sewer inspection and surveying project that will include trunk sewers 15-inches in diameter and larger, and their manholes. The sewer pipes and manholes slated for inspection are located in wooded right-of-ways and running along or crossing streams. (6/25/2012)
Port St. Lucie, Fla., has signed a $7.1 million 15-year energy savings performance contract with Morristown, N.J.-based Honeywell to improve facilities and infrastructure. The projects will include building a district cooling plant for the main municipal complex, upgrading lighting in more than 40 city facilities and parks, and adding controls for heating, cooling and lighting systems. The energy savings from the improvements will pay for the upgrades. (8/13/2012)
The New York City Department of Transportation has contracted with Spring City, Pa.-based Spring City Electrical to supply 1,588 LED luminaires that will be installed in Central Park. The lights will be placed on existing 9-foot-tall cast iron posts, replacing metal halide lamps along pedestrian paths. (7/2/2012)
Awards
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and Denver-based CH2M HILL and have received the California Association of Sanitation Agencies Technological Innovation and Achievement award for the joint concept development and final design of a sequencing batch reactor temperature phased anaerobic digestion (SBR TPAD) system for the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant. Intended to produce a Class A biosolids product, the SBR TPAD system increases volatile solids reduction to 64 percent and co-digests up to 30,000 gallons of grease trap waste per day that the plant receives from local haulers. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has received the 2011 James B. Sorenson Excellence in Pavement Preservation Award from the Austin, Texas-based Foundation for Pavement Preservation. The award recognizes the department's implementation of a Pavement Preservation program, including techniques such as sealing cracks that develop in pavement before further asphalt damage occurs and changing hot mix asphalt specifications. Clinton, Okla., has received a 2012 George W. Burke, Jr., Facility Safety Award from the Alexandria, Va.-based Water Environment Federation. The award is given annually to industrial or municipal wastewater facilities that have exhibited the best safety records in the past calendar year. The Clinton plant is a 4 million-gallon-per-day (mgd) wastewater treatment plant located in western Oklahoma about 85 miles west of Oklahoma City. Operation of the plant and the city's 5.5-mgd Clinton Lake water treatment plant has been managed through a public-private partnership with Washington, Pa.-based Severn Trent Services since 2010. The Spotsylvania County Livingston Composting Facility in Fredericksburg, Va., has received a Composting Systems Gold Excellence Award from the Silver Spring, Md.-based Solid Waste Association of North America. Denver-based CH2M HILL designed, permitted and constructed the 80 ton-per-day, $15.5 million biosolids composting facility. The facility also diverts 100 percent of the brush collected at the landfill and the county's convenience centre into the compost operation for recycling. (8/27/2012)
Orange County, Fla., has received an Exemplary Systems in Government (ESIG) Award from Des Plaines, Ill.-based URISA. The award in the Enterprise Systems category recognizes outstanding and working examples of using information systems technology in a multi-department environment as part of an integrated process. Orange County's Addressing and Land Development Information Network integrates GIS into addressing, zoning, document management and land development systems, as well as integrates GIS into the daily workflows of management and front-line staff. Centennial, Colo., has received the 2012 Transportation Achievement Award for Operations from the Institute of Transportation Engineers for its Optimized Snowplow Routing Project. The project, developed by Denver-based CH2M HILL, which provides public works services for the city in a public-private partnership, integrates route optimization with consumer-grade GPS devices to improve plowing coverage during snowstorms. The Chicago Department of Transportation has received the Environmental Leadership Award from the National Asphalt Pavement Association for its 2011 repaving of North Michigan Avenue. Chicago's Magnificent Mile was repaved using a stone-matrix asphalt pavement mix that used recycled asphalt shingles, reclaimed asphalt pavement and ground tire rubber. (7/23/2012)
