Colorado mural wins newspaper's acclaim
The “Colorful Colorado Histories” mural in the lobby of the El Paso County, Colo., courthouse recently received an award in the local newspaper's “Best of the Springs” series. The 70-by-14-foot mural, installed in November 2006, depicts five children against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. Each child's shirt displays local and state historical figures and well-known local landmarks. Painted by local artist Ken Bernstein, the $70,000 mural was commissioned by Colorado Springs, Colo.-based El Pomar Foundation to honor local attorney Ben Wendelken.
