Deputy Director of Public Services / Township Engineer

The Charter Township of Grand Blanc, Michigan, (pop. 35,075), is seeking a Deputy Director of Public Services / Township Engineer. Grand Blanc Township is home to the PGA's Buick Open, and is a progressive, fast growing, and preferred municipality in the southeastern portion of the Great Lake State.
The Deputy Director of Public Services will be part of the Township's management staff, and will perform complex supervisory, administrative, and professional work planning, organizing and directing public services.
Reports directly to the Director of the Department of Public Services. This individual should have a comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to a public works system; comprehensive knowledge of modern management principles and practices; ability to plan, direct and review the work of employees; ability to interpret community needs for public works improvements; thorough knowledge of the need for and attention to proper safety precautions; ability to speak and write effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, township officials, other government agency officials, associates and the general public.
Candidates must have experience coordinating projects with consultants, dealing with the public in a positive attitude, and providing information to the elected officials. The Department of Public Services annual budget is over $10 million with a staff of 25. The salary range is $65K to $69K depending on qualifications. This position receives a generous benefit package including: medical, dental, vision, short term and long term disability, pension plan, vacation and sick leave, holiday pay. Eight to ten years experience minimum as a successful Public Works Director / City/Township Engineer with management capabilities is desired. A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A State of Michigan professional engineering license is required or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. A detailed job description is available upon request.
