Seattle, Tacoma get Homeland Security grants
The ports of Seattle and Tacoma will receive a substantial portion of the $14 million in Homeland Security grants received by the state. Seattle will get $7.4 million, and Tacoma will get $2.5 million, with the remaining amount of nearly $5 million going to protect transit systems and a “buffer zone protection program,” according to the King County Journal. The grants are part of nearly $400 million that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has distributed nationally for seaport and transit system security.
