Hybrid pickup truck
With a patented two-mode hybrid system and a 6.0-liter gas V-8 engine, the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid pickup boasts a 25 percent improvement in overall fuel economy, according to GM. EPA-estimated fuel economy for two-wheel-drive models is 21 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway; four-wheel-drive models achieve an estimated 20 mpg in city and highway driving. The truck can operate in all-electric driving mode at speeds up to 30 mph. Its two-mode hybrid system uses regenerative braking to produce the electric power to propel the vehicle. Offered in the crew-cab body style on the two- and four-wheel-drive models, the Silverado Hybrid comes standard with electronic stability control, a locking rear axle, a trailering package (the truck offers a 6,100-pound towing capacity) and dual-stage frontal air bags and head-curtain side air bags.
