Pistol-packing ribs
These ribs pack a punch — as in a semi-automatic Rock Island Armory .38 Super punch. That’s the caliber of pistol police say a grocery worker in New Mexico found when he unwrapped a package of frozen ribs, according to Albuquerque television station KRQE News 13.
Authorities say the worker unwrapped the package in the meat section at an Albertsons store in Roswell. He found the loaded gun and seven rounds of ammo.
The gun apparently crossed state lines. According to a police report, the meat package was shipped from the Swift Packing Plant in Greeley, Colo.
The gun also had time to age well. The date on the original package is June 8, 2011.
Now police in two states are trying to figure out where the black, short-barrel automatic came from, who put it there and why. “We could speculate on a lot of things,” Sgt. Jim Preston of the Roswell Police Department told the television station. “It could have been someone just dropped it there, or it could have been something that someone put it there trying to hide it for 100 different reasons.”
One thing’s for certain, Preston said. “I have personally never heard of this in 13 years.”
