To communicate mandatory water restrictions and schedules, refrigerator magnets were mailed to households in Raleigh, N.C.
In December 2007, 63 percent of the Southeast and 100% of areas in the state of North Carolina were classified as experiencing severe drought conditions. To minimize potential shut-offs and conserve itsresources, the City of Raleigh turned to Durham, N.C.-based Magnetic Attractions to deliver a cost-effective message to residents.
Immediately prior to water restrictions that went into effect last summer, more than 160,000 Raleigh households received an oversized, 5.25- by 8.5-inch postcard with an attached 3.5- by 4-inch magnet. The postcard announced the effective date of water restrictions and irrigation instructions. The magnet reinforced the rules and included a graphic representation of the guidelines for each week.
Recipients could easily and neatly detach the magnet from the postcard, thanks to dry-peel technology that was used for the mailing piece.
