Model municipal illegal immigration law blocked
A federal judge has temporarily restrained the Hazleton, Pa., City Council from enforcing an illegal immigration law that has been a model for other towns across the nation. Hazleton’s Illegal Immigration Relief Act Ordinance would fine landlords who rented to illegal immigrants, close down businesses that hire them and allow legal employees affected by the business closures to sue for damages, according to CNN.com. The U.S. District Court judge decided that the law should not be enforced until a court had ruled on its constitutionality.
