A report from the California Department of Corrections says a ballot proposal that would prohibit convicted sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a park or school could cost the state millions of dollars. If the bill passes, as it is expected to do, corrections officials say it would force 5,500 sex offenders now on parole to move, leaving them unable to support their families and possibly requiring the state to pay for their housing, according to the Los Angeles Times. The report recommends that the state should instead define zones where offenders cannot loiter.
