The Phoenix Public Transit Department rolled out a specially decorated bus last month to celebrate the patriotic holiday season, beginning with Armed Forces Day. The Phoenix “Flag Bus,” sporting stars and stripes inside and out, began circulating on Saturday, May 20, and will continue through July 8, marking Flag Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day. The bus was decorated by Mayor Phil Gordon and veterans who served in Afghanistan, Iraq and in the Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts. It is operating on Route 1, which runs near the state Capitol and through the city to Veteran's Way near Arizona State University.
