Huntington Beach, Calif. - The city of 190,000 residents recently unveiled a memorial honoring veterans from the Orange County community. The black granite monument features the names of 89 people from the area who fought and died or are listed as Missing in Action from World War I to Vietnam.

A 21-gun salute by U.S. Army soldiers from nearby Fort Irwin and a helicopter flyover highlighted the ceremony, hosted by Mayor Ralph Bauer and Bob Kakuk of the Vietnam Veterans of Orange County. The $26,000 monument was financed by various county veterans groups.
