Getting there

The Napa (Calif.) Public Works Department has contracted with New York-based Parsons Brinkerhoff to provide construction management services for three new bridges, which are part of the Napa River flood protection project. The projects also include channel work and bank stabilization adjacent to the bridges. Construction is scheduled for completion in early 2005 at an estimated cost of $21 million.

The Pennsylvania counties of Delaware and Philadelphia have selected Lancaster, Pa.-based High Steel Structures to provide steel for the airport portion of the SR 95 project, which involves construction of a bridge to Philadelphia International Airport.

Orange, Calif., has chosen San Diego-based Berryman & Henigar to provide pavement management system services. The company will provide the city with a comprehensive pavement and infrastructure management program, including pavement design, field survey and GIS.

Los Angeles has completed a street improvement project on Vermont Avenue that includes 300 new trees, enhanced crosswalks, new signs and public art. The locally based landscape architecture and urban design firm Melendrez Babalas renovated the two-mile section of the street.

The Fresno County, Calif., Workforce Development Board has chosen Bethesda, Md.-based Lockheed Martin to help unemployed residents find jobs. Under the $22 million contract, the company will operate career centers throughout the county.

West Nottingham, Pa., has contracted with Kennett Square, Pa.-based Brandywine Valley Engineers, a division of New York-based Vollmer Associates, to provide municipal engineering services. The company will provide the town with analysis and design services for public works projects, grant writing and traffic engineering.

Mount Olive, N.J., has selected Manalapan, N.J.-based Schoor DePalma to prepare an assessment of the city's master plan and land development ordinance.

Chesterfield County, Va., has selected Rockville, Md.-based PermitsNOW to provide its online permitting system.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has selected Blacksburg, Va.-based Tele-Works to provide an e-government application that will allow residents to pay parking tickets online.

York, S.C., has contracted with Columbia, S.C.-based VC3 to provide software that will allow residents to request services and track those requests online.

Albuquerque, N.M., has selected Burlington, Mass.-based Cognos to provide Web-based reporting and analysis software for the city's Police Department and Parks and Recreation Department.

The National Transit Institute at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., has recognized transit trainers from Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Austin, Texas; the Casper (Wyo.) Area Transportation Coalition; Long Beach (Calif.) Transit; the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, San Jose, sCalif.; and the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority, Orlando, Fla., for increasing effectiveness and efficiency in public transit.

Burlington, Vt., and Dufresne-Henry, based in North Springfield, Vt., have received an award from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects for superior accomplishment in the design of a waterfront park in Burlington.

Long Beach, Calif., and locally based Earth Tech have received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors for the Manufacturing Empowerment Zone Project at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. The project allowed local businesses to purchase equipment from the shipyard at affordable prices, expanding productivity and employment.

East Hanover Township, Pa., and Rochester, N.Y.-based Erdman, Anthony and Associates have received the Grand Conceptor Award from the Harrisburg, Pa.-based Consulting Engineers Council of Pennsylvania. The award recognizes a recently constructed wastewater treatment facility serving the Shellsville and Grantville communities in East Hanover.
