The Hillsborough County, Fla., Aviation Authority dedicated a 27,000-square-foot Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facility at the Tampa International Airport last month. The $7.5 million building houses up to 14 full-time firefighters and several administrative offices, as well as 10 drive-through bays for emergency vehicles. The building is centrally located on airport grounds so emergency vehicles can respond to the mid-point of all three runways within three minutes. Designed by locally based PBS&J, the facility includes an advanced communication system link to the air traffic control tower and the city's 911 emergency system.
