U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for using hybrid buses to reduce emissions.

The Austin, Texas, City Hall has received a Design Award from Schaumburg, Ill.-based Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute for its site-cast concrete structure.

The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County's Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility and Transfer Station has received a Gold Award from Silver Spring, Md.-based Solid Waste Association of North America for the facility's energy conservation design.

The Orange County, Calif., Water District has been named Client of the Year by the Orange County Chapter of the Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors of California for its leadership in managing the county's groundwater basin.

Escondido, Calif., has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Washington-based Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its Comprehensive Financial Report.

Parker, Colo.-based Colorado Lining International, a geomembrane manufacturer, has acquired Evansville, Ind.-based Alliance Golf, a water-feature builder, and is now ClearWater Construction International.
Irvine, Calif.-based Signature Control Systems, a manufacturer of turf-grass site management equipment, has acquired Bear Irrigation from Temecula, Calif.-based Grizzle & Hunter Plastic.
Glen Allen, Va.-based Schnabel Engineering has merged with Golden, Colo.-based Lachel Felice & Associates.
El Segundo, Calif.-based NC4, a crisis management firm, has acquired Arlington, Va.-based ESP Group, an Internet security company.
Indianapolis-based Schneider Corp., a geographic information systems provider, has merged with Ames, Iowa-based ProMap.
Beachwood, Ohio-based Wastequip has acquired North Oxford, Mass.-based Pioneer Cover-All, which manufactures tarp systems.
Fairport, N.Y.-based Bosch Security Systems has acquired Burnsville, Minn.-based Telex Communications, a manufacturer of communication equipment.

Albuquerque, N.M., has contracted with Omaha, Neb.-based HDR, an architectural, engineering and consulting firm, to manage and engineer the city's Modern Streetcar Project. Also, the Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with the company to provide overall quality assurance in the construction of the new interchange of Interstates 170 and 340 in St. Louis.
The Fort Worth, Texas, Transportation Authority and San Francisco-based URS have contracted with Naples, Fla.-based Neighborhood America to gather public comment on traffic congestion in Tarrant County, Texas.
The Memphis Area Transit Authority has contracted with Reston, Va.-based MAXIMUS to provide fleet management software and an automated fuel system.
The California Department of Transportation has contracted with New York-based Parsons Brinckerhoff to design improvements for a section of State Road 94 in San Diego County.
The New York State Department of Transportation has contracted with New York-based Vollmer to design a deck replacement for the Grand Central Parkway bridge viaduct in Queens.

Omaha and Douglas County, Neb., have contracted with Norfolk, Va.-based CCG Systems to provide fleet maintenance computer software for the Douglas-Omaha Technology Commission.
Daytona Beach, Fla., has purchased geographic information system software from Yarmouth, Maine-based DeLorme.
Woodbury, Minn., has contracted with Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based HRG Tech Group to implement computer software that will track requests from the public through the city's Web site, telephone calls and other sources.
The Redlands, Calif., Imperial Irrigation District has contracted with locally based ESRI to provide geographic information system computer software.
Illinois has contracted with Lynchburg, Va.-based CTA Communications to help reconfigure the state's 800 MHz radio system for its emergency workers.
Clayton County, Ga., has contracted with Rochester, N.Y.-based Pictometry to provide an aerial imaging database.
Woodbury, Minn., has contracted with Dubuque, Iowa-based Cartegraph to provide computer software for a city-wide work management system.


Safe at home

The Junction City, Kan., Fire Department has purchased a 2005 Pierce Arrow XT rescue pumper truck from York, Neb.-based Midwest Vehicle Professionals.
The Outagamie County, Wis., Sheriff's Department has contracted with Castle Hayne, N.C.-based VisionAIR to provide computer software. Also, Hoke County, N.C., purchased software from the company to provide jail inmate management and fire management. Mecosta County, Mich., also purchased the company's law enforcement records and inmate management software.
Newton County, Ga., has purchased a $4.5 million, 700/800 MHz radio system for first responders from Lowell, Mass.-based M/A-COM.
The Plainfield, Ill., Police Department has contracted with Denver-based Municipal Software to provide software for Web-based code enforcement services.
The Chester County, Pa., Department of Emergency Services has purchased a Web-based alert network for emergency workers from Arlington, Va.-based Roam Secure. Also, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has contracted with the company for the same system that also provides emergency information to civilians.
