Pants under fire

The underwear-exposing trend of wearing baggy pants below the waist, popularized in hip-hop culture and, lest we forget, the Marky Mark Calvin Klein ads, is creating much debate in Atlanta. An Atlanta city council member has proposed amending the city's public decency laws to prohibit individuals from wearing baggy pants that show undergarments, according to ABC News. The amendment would place the clothing trend on par with sex in public, but would probably result in a fine rather than incarceration. “It kind of doesn't make sense,” Atlanta City Councilman and amendment sponsor C.T. Martin, told ABC News of the fashion. “It is hard for people to walk.”

Healthy choices

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry has proposed a ban on fast-food restaurants in the southern part of the city that would prevent them from opening for up to two years, according to The Associated Press (AP). While some health experts praise the moratorium, some in the restaurant industry disagree. “[It's] like saying we're not going to allow anybody to sell Chevrolets anymore because we want people to buy nothing but Mercedes-Benzes,” WD Partners Foodservices Strategies Chief Dennis Lombardi told AP.
