Roadway Sensors Gather Data on Weather Conditions and Pavement Surfaces for Automatic Spraying of De-Icers Install Road/Runway Weather Information System (RWIS) to assure winter safety on thoroughfares and reduce the amount of de-icing chemicals needed. Ideal for bridges, curves, shady roads, steep grades, ramps, runways, and high-frequency accident areas. Features pavement-embedded sensors that collect data about road surface and weather conditions, including temperature, freeze point, form of moisture (snow or ice), and amount of de-icing chemicals present. The sensors also determine air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, precipitation, and visibility. All sensors connect to a remote processing unit (RPU) positioned adjacent to road or runway. When sensors indicate the need for de-icing, RPU activates a 6-spray FreezeFree de-icing system. Solenoid valves work in sequence to automatically dispense de-icing liquid over target area. Quixote Transportation Safety, Inc., Chicago, IL; |
