Correctional Facility Tracks Inmates Moves
The Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln, Ill., has become the nation’s first medium-security prison to implement Alanco Technologies Inc.’s TSI PRISM RFID officer safety and inmate management system, as part of an effort to reduce operating costs and prevent inmate violence.
Utilizing belt-worn RFID radio transmitters for officers and inmate wristband units, the TSI PRISM system allows Logan administrators to continuously monitor and track the location and movement of approximately 2,000 inmates at the 50-acre complex.
A significant decline in inmate violence incidents is expected, as inmates respond favorably to the behavioral impact of continuous monitoring.
In addition, the capability of the TSI PRISM system to record a permanent archive database of all inmate movements within the facility over virtually any time frame should dramatically reduce the state’s exposure to potential lawsuits by inmates.
