Rancho Cordova, Calif. — The Crossings at New Rancho

Rancho Cordova, Calif., worked Santa Ana, Calif.-based developer Urban Housing Communities to build The Crossings at New Rancho, 12 two-bedroom and six three-bedroom apartment homes in two three-story buildings. The homes have transformed the site, which was formerly occupied by a dilapidated motel that had been vacant for nearly a decade. Phase Two of the community, called Horizons at New Rancho, will include 48 affordable one- and two-bedroom apartment homes for senior citizens.
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — Progresso Point

Co-developers Broward County, Fla., Housing Authority and Asheville, N.C.-based Reliance Housing Foundation recently opened Progresso Point, downtown Fort Lauderdale’s newest affordable rental community. The $20 million eight-story apartment building is the state’s first building to be approved to receive the Florida Green Building Coalition’s Green High-Rise Residential Designation.

Progresso Point has 64 one bedroom/one bath and 12 studio apartments ranging from 500 to 600 square feet. Each features nine-foot hurricane impact windows and glass doors that open onto private balconies. An attached three-story parking garage, swimming pool, exercise room, library, and computer lab are available to all residents.
Los Angeles County — Rio Vista Apartments

Los Angeles County worked with Abode Communities to build the Rio Vista Apartments on surplus land owned by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The 50 two- and three-bedroom affordable rental units are located next to the site of a future Early Education Center.

Los Angeles County's Rio Vista Apartments feature a rooftop garden, laundry facilities, a community room, a computer lab and an array of resident services. The LEED Platinum-rated development also includes reclaimed municipal water irrigation and solar water heating.

Buena Park, Calif. — The New House Buena Park 9

Buena Park, Calif., and RSI Development built nine Craftsman-style, single-family detached houses. The city bought the land for the homes, and the builder finished construction on them in eight weeks. The houses, located at several locations throughout the city, are being sold to qualified buyers at prices $150,000 to $200,000 below other new homes nearby. Buena Park, Calif. — The New House Buena Park 9

The New House Buena Park 9 homes range from 1,585 to 1,968 square feet and consist of three- and four-bedroom floor plans. Each of the homes includes central air conditioning, custom kitchens with granite countertops, Energy Star appliances and exterior landscaping.
