Rancho Cordova, Calif. — The Crossings at New Rancho
Rancho Cordova, Calif., worked Santa Ana, Calif.-based developer Urban Housing Communities to build The Crossings at New Rancho, 12 two-bedroom and six three-bedroom apartment homes in two three-story buildings. The homes have transformed the site, which was formerly occupied by a dilapidated motel that had been vacant for nearly a decade. Phase Two of the community, called Horizons at New Rancho, will include 48 affordable one- and two-bedroom apartment homes for senior citizens.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — Progresso Point
Co-developers Broward County, Fla., Housing Authority and Asheville, N.C.-based Reliance Housing Foundation recently opened Progresso Point, downtown Fort Lauderdale’s newest affordable rental community. The $20 million eight-story apartment building is the state’s first building to be approved to receive the Florida Green Building Coalition’s Green High-Rise Residential Designation.

Los Angeles County worked with Abode Communities to build the Rio Vista Apartments on surplus land owned by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The 50 two- and three-bedroom affordable rental units are located next to the site of a future Early Education Center.

The city bought the land for the homes, and the builder finished construction on them in eight weeks. The houses, located at several locations throughout the city, are being sold to qualified buyers at prices $150,000 to $200,000 below other new homes nearby.
