GSA hosts design and construction forum
Under the theme of “Building Opportunities Together,” 400 forum attendees networked with GSA leaders on project opportunities for the coming year. They also had the chance to meet with regional GSA property development directors and learn about policy and program changes in numerous workshops that covered topics such as the construction acquisition process and requirements for submitting a successful construction contract bid.
“GSA has a responsibility to provide high-quality workplaces for our federal customer agencies at the best value to the American taxpayer,” GSA Commissioner for Public Buildings David Winstead said. “Now more than ever, we need strong collaboration with our industry partners and all of our design and construction contractors to achieve successful results in our capital construction program.”
The GSA describes itself as “the federal civilian government landlord,” managing more than 350 million square feet of space in both owned and leased buildings across the country. The agency’s construction budget is about $12 billion—$7 billion in new construction and $4 billion in repair and alterations to our existing inventory.
