RECRUITMENT DATES November 19, 2007 - Until selection is made. First review of application material will occur on December 07, 2007.

SALARY $20.77 - $30.92 hourly / $43,202 - $64,314 annualized.

EXPERIENCE Requires five years of experience working within a water distribution system or a wastewater collection system including a minimum of one year of experience at the level of Foreman supervising a water distribution system or wastewater collection system; supplemented by college level courses in mechanical or civil engineering. Must possess a Grade 4 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection certification at time of hire. Ability to communicate effectively, demonstrate leadership and exercise independent judgment while supervising a large team is preferred. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

DUTIES Inspects the work in progress of employees, checks materials and workmanship, suggests improvements in work methods and procedures. Reads and interprets engineering specifications and drawings, and prepares field sketches and work reports. Approves purchase of inventory including materials, tools, and equipment. Monitors service yard budget and develops specifications for new equipment and negotiates service contracts. Prepares reports for management on service yard operations, service delivery, productivity, manpower usage, and equipment replacement or repair needs. Ensures that all federal, state, and city regulations are adhered to during day-to-day operations. Responds to operational and/or system related problems and develops and implements solutions while working closely with engineers, process control specialists, other departments, and/or consultants. Promotes team involvement and participation in setting goals, priorities, and strategies for safe, efficient, and effective service yard operations.
Water Distribution Utility Supervisor This position plans, assigns and supervises the work of service crews engaged in the general operation, maintenance, construction, inspection, and repair of water distribution system equipment/facilities.
Wastewater Utility Supervisor This position plans, assigns and supervises the work of service crews engaged in the operation, maintenance, construction, cleaning, inspection, and repair of the wastewater collection system equipment/facilities. Currently there is one vacancy for the Water Distribution Utility Supervisor and two vacancies for the Wastewater Utility Supervisor. Additional vvacancies are anticipated over the life of this eligible-to-hire.

ALSO REQUIRED Some positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record. Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Some vacancies may occur on second / third shift.

RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.
