RECRUITMENT DATES June 4, 2007 - Until selection is made.

SALARY $19.13 - $28.50 hourly / $39,790 - $59,259 annualized.

EXPERIENCE Requires one year of experience in an accident prevention or loss control program and a bachelor’s degree in safety management, risk management, or related field. Basic Windows-based computer skills and significant group training skills are strongly preferred. In addition, being recognized as an OSHA Instructor 500 and/or 501 series is preferred for some positions. Experience working in a shop environment is also desirable for some positions. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

DUTIES This position plans, develops, and maintains safety programs for an operating department. Some duties include assisting in developing and conducting safety training; conducting job hazard assessments; performing safety inspections; investigating accidents; monitoring and analyzing workers’ compensation claims toward future prevention; coordinating loss prevention efforts; and performing other safety function to minimize risk for the City of Phoenix. Some positions oversee CDL requirements and inspections. Currently, there are vacancies in the Water Services Department and Street Transportation Department.

ALSO REQUIRED For some positions, individuals will be required to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) medical examination, and possess a class “A” Commercial Driver License (CDL), which must be maintained during employment in a CDL position. Applicants are responsible for all testing costs. As a condition of continued employment, employees in CDL positions will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing, as required by law. Some positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record. Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required; moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required; and climbing stairs, ladders, and onto various machinery in the course of conducting safety inspections may also be required. Some positions require working in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time.

RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.
