The City of Fallon, Nevada is accepting applications for the position of Engineer. This current Engineer is retiring September 1, 2008 after 20 years of service with the City of Fallon. The engineers office provides engineering support for :

1. 40 miles of streets, curb gutter and alleyway.
2. 3 large City parks and a handful of neighborhood parks
3. Building permit, plan review and land use decisions
4. A municipal electric system
5. A municipal water system
6. A municipal sewer collection and treatment system
7. A water treatment system
8. A municipal airport
9. A secured freight yard on a railroad
10. A municipal landfill
11. A municipal business park
12. City owned and maintained buildings including a convention center
13. Municipal outdoor pool, baseball fields and recreational center
14. Street lights and traffic lights

The City of Fallon is governed by a Mayor and City Council. The Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the City. The City Engineer is appointed by the Mayor and subject to the confirmation of the City Council. The Engineer must become a resident of the City of Fallon as all appointed officers are. Also in this department is an account clerk, an engineering technician, a building inspector and a future hiring of a deputy City Engineer.

The City of Fallon serves a population of 8,500 and occupies just over 4 square miles. Fallon is located a short 60 miles from Reno, Lake Tahoe and historic Virginia City. Fallon has over 300 days of sunshine and is the gateway to “America’s Playground” for a variety of outdoor activities. Fallon is famous for its youth sports programs, health care facilities, community college and low crime rate.

Applicants should have an engineering license with a civil engineering preferred. Nevada commercial driver’s license is required for this position.
