The head of the Fairfax County, Va., Board of Supervisors is blasting Republican legislators for cutting $22 million in proposed spending amendments to the state budget that included about $6 million to fund day care for low-income families. Board Chairman Gerald Connolly says the budget cuts could reduce subsidies that could help the parents of 1,900 children out of 2,200 on a waiting list for the county’s daycare program, according to the Washington Post. Republicans say they want more money spent on transportation improvements.
