A member of the Salt Lake County, Utah, council says concern about the upcoming election led to the decision by state lawmakers to eliminate part of a ballot proposition to raise sales taxes for roads or transit projects. The council wanted to include on the ballot a list of specific projects that would be funded by the quarter-cent sales tax hike, according to the Deseret Morning News. County Councilman Joe Hatch says the lawmakers left the list off the ballot because they did not want to jeopardize their races, but one legislator says the decision was not political and the legislators didn’t think the county should be committed to funding specific projects. The propositions’ supporters say voters may decide against the tax increase if they do not have the list.
