Some residents of Los Angeles’ “skid row” fighting to keep the name

Skid Row on LA firetrucks causing controversey

For some residents of “Skid Row” in Los Angeles, the name is a mark of shame. For others, according to the Los Angeles Times, it is a badge of honor. Firefighters at Station 9 on 7th Street are fighting to keep the name “Skid Row” on their fire trucks and ambulances. Some residents are joining them, but officials say they want the names removed because they have received complaints from people who find the name insulting. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-skid1jun01,0,3481399.story?coll=la-home-headlines
