The arrest of San Jose, Calif., Mayor Ron Gonzales and his top budget aide may be connected to a civil grand jury investigation into allegations that Gonzales illegally helped a sanitation company win a $11.25 million contract with the city. Gonzales and his aide, Joe Guerra, were briefly arrested and released Thursday but officials did not release the charges, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Gonzales’ office did acknowledge that the grand jury had indicted the mayor on six charges that were to be announced on Friday, however Gonzales said he did not break any laws. Soon after Gonzales’ arrest, two members of the city council called on him to resign.
