San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales is pleading not guilty to charges of bribery, conspiracy to defraud the public and misuse of public funds

San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales is pleading not guilty to charges of bribery, conspiracy to defraud the public and misuse of public funds. Gonzales’s top budget aide Joe Guerra and Norcal Waste Systems also entered not guilty pleas on Wednesday, and a trial date has been set for May 14, 2007, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Prosecutors say Gonzales and Guerra arranged for the city to give Norcal several million dollars to settle a labor dispute and then lied to the city council about the money.
