Attempts to put more power in the hands of Miami’s mayor are being challenged in court. The South Florida AFL-CIO is heading a coalition that wants the Miami-Dade Circuit Court to invalidate a petition drive supporting the plan to transfer administrative power from the county manager to Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez, according to The Miami Herald. A coalition lawyer says the county charter requires that a full text of the proposal be available to the public, while the county’s attorney says a summary of the plan is enough.
