New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants to offer tax credits and rewards to help impoverished families pay for child care and encourage them to improve their education. The program, which is based on recommendations from Bloomberg’s Commission on Economic Opportunity, would be the first of its kind in the nation, according to The New York Times. Critics say it doesn’t offer enough help to the unemployed and that Bloomberg didn’t do enough to pressure the private sector to increase wages.
