Mississippi county fights back against beavers

A beaver bounty program was so popular in Lee County, Miss., that when state funding dried up in 2004 the county footed the bill.

A beaver bounty program was so popular in Lee County, Miss., that when state funding dried up in 2004 the county footed the bill. The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service administers the program, which is intended to control the beaver population to minimize flooding caused by the animals’ dams, according to The Clarion Ledger. The flooding can damage farmland, says the county’s supervisor.
