Louisiana’s treasurer says the state can afford to pay up to $300 million to help bail out a state-run insurance agency

Louisiana’s treasurer says the state can afford to pay up to $300 million to help bail out a state-run insurance agency. Money left over from the previous budget year can be diverted to the faltering Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp. to help reduce insurance bills that have been on the rise since Hurricane Katrina, according to The Advocate. The agency insures those who could not otherwise get insurance.
