Los Angeles Police Department still vulnerable to scandal

A special task force reports that the Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department, embroiled in a corruption scandal seven years ago, has undergone a lot of positive reform.

A special task force reports that the Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department, embroiled in a corruption scandal seven years ago, has undergone a lot of positive reform. But there is still not enough oversight by police supervisors to prevent more abuses such as those that were revealed in 1999, including the planting of evidence and beating of suspects, according to the Los Angeles Times. The task force also encouraged the further use of community-based policing rather than the aggressive “warrior policing” method currently in use.
