Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa met with leaders of the city’s Muslims to apologize for not returning their phone calls. The Muslim leaders held a news conference Friday to complain after Villaraigosa attended a Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles rally even though he had not responded to their phone calls asking him to attend interfaith vigils, according to the Los Angeles Times. Islamic Shura Council of Southern California Executive Director Shakeel Syed called Villaraigosa’s apology “gracious” and says the meeting was productive.
