Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the city’s incoming school Superintendent David Brewer say they aren’t expecting any conflict during their first meeting, despite the ongoing struggle regarding Villaraigosa taking control of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The two were expected to meet on Wednesday morning to discuss partnerships, according to the Los Angeles Times. The school board rejected Villaraigosa’s attempt to influence the superintendent’s selection, and now the mayor is expected to oppose the reelection of several board members. Also, the school board has filed a lawsuit claiming that the recently passed law giving Villaraigosa and a panel of mayors much control over the district is unconstitutional.
