An accused drug dealer says a Manchester, Ky., city councilman and an assistant police chief offered him protection in exchange for arson. As part of his guilty plea entered on Monday, Bobby Curry testified that Councilman Vernon Hacker and Assistant Police Chief Todd Roberts gave him tips on police activity after he agreed to burn down a house that was in the way of building the city’s new 911 dispatch and police headquarters, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. Curry also says that Hacker and Roberts, who have been indicted on drug charges, provided him with drugs from police raids and that Hacker bought illegal guns from him.
