The sheriff of Dallas County, Iowa, is retiring under the pressure of an investigation into more than $60,000 in cash that is missing from the department’s evidence room. Sheriff Brian Gilbert, in announcing his retirement, also vowed to continue fighting criminal charges he faces in connection with the missing money and property from the evidence room, according to The Des Moines Register. Gilbert says he’s retiring because the investigation is too much of a distraction to the department, and he also cited health problems.
