Indianapolis’ ban on sex offenders in public playgrounds is on hold while the city decides whether to appeal the injunction a U.S. district judge issued against the law last week. Judge Richard Young says the law, which would prohibit registered sex offenders from coming within 1,000 feet of public playgrounds when children are there, is unconstitutional and essentially bans the offenders from the city, according to The Indianapolis Star. Young’s decision was in response to a lawsuit that the American Civil Liberties Union filed on behalf of four sex offenders who claim the ordinance hindered their commutes to work and their right to vote because their polling place is in a school.
