A major fundraiser and supporter of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich stands accused of using his influence with the state government to demand kickbacks from companies that wanted to do business with the state teachers’ pension system. Food-service mogul Antoin Rezko has been charged in the federal corruption case along with a state official with whom, investigators say, he conspired to take millions of dollars from financial firms and hospitals, according to the Chicago Tribune. Blagojevich says that, if the indictments are true, Rezko and his codefendant should be held accountable.
