Audit finds fault with Hawaii County recycling program

Hawaii County officials are pleased with the thoroughness of an audit into the county’s recycling programs, but the results have them concerned

Hawaii County officials are pleased with the thoroughness of an audit into the county’s recycling programs, but the results have them concerned. The audit found that some contractors were allowed to operate without permits, that material diverted from the island’s two landfills was not accurately measured and that there is no maintenance plan for the county’s transfer stations, according to the Hawaii Tribune-Herald. Officials say the audit will help them plan for the future.
