Supreme Court upholds insanity defense

In a 6-3 vote, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld an Arizona law that limits the use of insanity defenses. According to the Arizona Republic, the court said the insanity rule is open to state choice. The ruling is a relief to 16 states that filed papers with the court supporting Arizona’s law concerned they would have to rewrite their own similar laws if Arizona’s was overturned.
