The family of a Stamford, Conn., man say in a lawsuit that the city’s police should have done more to prevent him from hanging himself in a jail cell two years ago. The man’s brother, Alberto Mendez-Perez, is suing the city for $15,000 over the Sept. 4, 2004, death of his brother Edgar Mendez-Perez while both men were in adjoining cells on charges of disorderly conduct, according to the Stamford Advocate. Stamford’s attorney said only that the city will fight the claim.
