Witness at Chicago trial: federal prosecutors wanted information on mayor’s brother

As testimony continued in the federal corruption trial of four former Chicago officials, a witness said in cross examination that federal prosecutors asked him about Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s brother

As testimony continued in the federal corruption trial of four former Chicago officials, a witness said in cross examination that federal prosecutors asked him about Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s brother. A defense attorney in the case said the questioning was an attempt by prosecutors to indict the mayor in connection with allegations of corruption in the city’s hiring and promotions process, according to the Chicago Tribune. The witness, former Deputy Commissioner Christopher Kozicki, said only that the mayor’s brother, Cook County Commissioner John Daley, was a regular topic in conversations with prosecutors. Robert Sorich, a former aide to Mayor Richard Daley, and three others are accused of arranging jobs and promotions for unqualified workers who supported the mayor.
