Monday was the beginning of the end of the federal trial of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s former patronage chief who is charged with rigging the city’s hiring process to favor supporters of the mayor. For the past six weeks various witnesses have testified that Robert Sorich and his co-defendants gave jobs and promotions to people who worked on Daley’s campaign, according to the Chicago Tribune. Defense attorneys say the state failed to prove its case.
